Suddenly, a bout of reminiscence falls upon me......

If someone were to ask me which year of my 25 years on earth so far would i want to relive groundhog style. If there was one year which I never ever want to forget. If there was one year which I will not change anything. It has got to be the period from June 2003 to July 2004. Period. I'll never forget the best year of my life by far. Never in all other years have I felt so alive.

Grow Old With You

Definitely there are songs which you really hope would be played to you. I for one would love it if someone were to sing the following to me.
I wanna make you smile whenever youre sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you

I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you

Ill miss you
Ill kiss you
Give you my coat when you are cold

Ill need you
Ill feed you
Even let ya hold the remote control

So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink
Put you to bed if youve had too much to drink
I could be the man who grows old with you
I wanna grow old with you

Is it time?

When light turns to darkness
When strength turns to weakness
What is the point of persisting?

Why would anyone try?
Just because they can?

Is it the challenge?
Is it the impossibility?
Is it the need for something else that is hidden?

Everyone has their own agenda.
But what is really displayed?

Am i really in control?

Still a deliberation

Has anyone out there found their perfect job? I'm happier here as compared to my previous jobs. But its getting to me.

I don't like not having things to do. Research doesn't count in my case. I like to be kept on my feet, constantly answering queries and communicating with people. However when it comes to doing work at my desktop that doesn't involve communication with another person, i lose myself.

I need to get myself thrown more tasks more suited to me. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I've communicated things before that i realize ain't true. I won't go and kill myself for the job. It ain't worth it, employers sure aren't going to kill themselves for you even if you show them unwavering loyalty and absolute hardwork.

A note of thought

Just experienced an incident on the bus to work just now and it made me feel like inking it down somewhere.

Situation: A soft spoken small sized girl was trying to move to the exit to get off at the next stop. Unfortunately she couldn't steady herself enough to move when the bus is moving. When the bus stopped, she tried her best to get people to let her pass to get off the bus.

First moving to the front of the bus did not work as the door was already closed by the time she arrived there. Then getting to the back exit became a problem as well due to the mass of humans in the way.

By the time she had even managed to get to the exit, the exit had not only closed on her, the bus had already been moving for some time. She could only wait and get off at the next stop.

Afterwards: When I got off the bus, i was listening to the group next to me commenting on the incident we had all seen. They were commenting on how the people were always so packed around the exit and that prevented people who needed to get off the bus from doing so.

Comments: We have seen it on commercials, we have been walked through campaigns telling us. Unfortunately the campaigns only show the people crowding around the exit at fault. Yes, they were should have moved to the back. And yes, they were at fault in that they noticed the girl winding her way to the exit and yet she had to move them to get through.

But they were just doing what everyone on the bus seemed to be doing. Unfortunately to say, me included. Everyone was intent on ignoring her until she crossed paths with them.

The driver knowing that she was trying to get off, kept the front door closed with all the mass of human bodies blocking her way to the back exit. And without even making sure she had gotten off, closed the door and started moving off.

All the people in the bus who are aware of the girl not even bothering to ask the driver to wait and just contented themselves with observing the struggle she had to go through to get to the exit.

All the more notable is that because she is soft-spoken and seemingly unwilling to do what other singaporeans would do and push her way to the exit. People seemed content to ignore her.

Is this the typical singaporean behaviour? Unfortunately yes. And I am upset to say that I did not bring up the courage to speak up and just shout at the driver to keep the door open for her.

Return to a time in past

Been a hell of a long time since I've last updated this blog. Sorry guys if you've been disappointed by the lack of new posts.

Time really flies! Its coming to the end of six months and i'm still feeling like I've barely started! Time really does go by when you enjoy your work. To the topic of the title, went clubbing ytd, brings back memories of time past. Its really been a while but it does feel nice to let loose and to hang out with some fun people. Photos galore. At the end of the day I did enjoy myself and thanks to the one that actually sent me home. Not sure where I would have ends up without her to send me back safely in the cab.

feels good

It feels good to know that there are no hidden undercurrents. To know that when the time says to get off work, it is the time to get off work. Not that although the time is stated, everybody understands the hidden off work time of an hour later.

a week down

Starting in a new place always has the part of getting settled in and it's been the same for the past week. 5 days over and I'm getting the impression I'm going to enjoy my job. Quite a different experience from previous work experience I've been through.

Attachment gave me the experience of working in a construction related industry in Electrical installation and my first job was a wider scope of the same industry. Not much difference there. Just went from a family business to a SME. Both had screwed up HR practises, both give a lot of experience. Starting work for my first job didn't feel foreign to me. This job though is a new ground.

Marketing, meeting clients, the link between Technical and Commercial. What I've been looking for since i left my previous job. Actually its an area I've been trying to find since i graduated. Now I've got it and in a company that actually knows what its doing. It feels great about that. I know the thing about learning in an SME and then going on to an MNC, well all i can say is that i can't imagine anyone wanting to go to an SME from being in an MNC. Unless of course they are going to own it.

Speaking of SME HR practices, my idiotic previous company hasn't paid me for my last paycheck. Darn it if i have to go the extra mile just to get it back.

Question

Been two and a half months since I've left my previous employment. Starting to think if i should be doing something. I've received my cpf contribution for the last month I've worked and yet i have not had a meeting set to get my last paycheck. 6 months is the time period that MOM has for reporting a case breach in salary but i really hope i don't have to go there.

Anyway I've just sent in a direct email to my boss and i do hope things can be settled.
